UPDATE: Four Persons Rescued From Kubwa Collapsed Building

Four persons have been rescued from a two-storey building that collapsed in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory on Friday.

Two others were still trapped as of 1 pm.

The Director of the FCT Department for Development Control, Mukthar Galadima said the building collapsed some minutes before midnight on Thursday.

According to him, preliminary reports showed that the building was on swampy land and was built with inferior materials.

“It’s an unfortunate incident a building collapsed. A building on two suspended floors collapsed last night at about 11 pm.

“The most important thing now is that we have organised and are coordinating a rescue operation because two people are still trapped while four have been rescued out of the structure.

“We are trying to see what could have been the cause and my investigation is that this place is a swampy area. So, it could be that sediments came in.

“That means the soil is not stable enough for such a structure to be built on,” he said.

Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the FCT Emergency Management Agency, the Fire Service, the Nigerian Securities and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), and the police are continuing rescue and investigation duties at the site.
