US Envoy, Lebanese President Discuss Ceasefire Ahead of Washington Visit

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has met U.S. Ambassador Michel Issa to discuss his upcoming visit to Washington at the invitation of President Donald Trump, with talks focusing on security and the ceasefire in southern Lebanon.

According to a statement from the Lebanese presidency, Aoun stressed the need to strengthen the ceasefire and urged the United States to press Israel to halt attacks, end shelling and bulldozing operations, and fully comply with the U.S.-brokered agreement.

Issa said the planned Washington visit underscores Trump's commitment to Lebanon's stability and confirmed that Lebanese, U.S. and Israeli officials will meet in Rome on July 14 and 15 to advance discussions.

The ambassador also announced that a U.S. military delegation will arrive in Beirut in the coming days to coordinate the transfer of designated "pilot areas" to the Lebanese Armed Forces following the withdrawal of Israeli troops.

The meetings are part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to reinforce the ceasefire and reduce tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border.
