US President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, have arrived in Moscow to discuss a proposed plan to end the war in Ukraine.
Russian state media reported that the pair landed in Moscow on Saturday and are expected to travel to Kyiv on Sunday for further talks.
Their visit comes as Russian forces carried out overnight strikes on Kyiv’s two airports and other targets in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said a Russian strike in the Dnipro region killed four people, while another drone attack hit the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service in central Kyiv.
Zelensky accused Russia of attempting to disrupt the diplomatic mission but said Ukraine would adjust its military operations to ensure there were no threats to the US envoys’ visit.
He also proposed a temporary ceasefire for the duration of the talks, calling on Russia to reciprocate.
Trump said Witkoff and Kushner were carrying a proposal to end the war and would assess whether meaningful progress towards peace was possible.
The US president, however, declined to say whether the proposal would require Ukraine to surrender territory.
The latest diplomatic push comes amid renewed Russian and Ukrainian missile and drone attacks, with the conflict continuing to cause rising civilian casualties.
