The United States has carried out a ninth consecutive night of airstrikes on Iran, targeting military command centres, missile and drone launch sites, air defence systems and coastal surveillance facilities, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).
Iran responded by launching a fresh wave of missiles at what it described as "enemy targets," while explosions were reported in several Iranian cities.
The continued exchange of attacks has heightened concerns about a wider regional conflict and further disruption to global oil supplies.
The Pentagon also confirmed the death of another US service member in northern Iraq during the controlled detonation of a downed Iranian drone.
The latest casualty comes days after two American troops were killed in an Iranian attack in Jordan, bringing the total number of US military deaths in the conflict to 17.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington remains open to diplomacy but warned that Iran's continued missile and drone attacks undermine negotiations.
President Donald Trump said Iran had been "hit very hard" and insisted the country must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.
The escalating conflict has also affected the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.
Oil prices climbed about three per cent as security concerns grew, while the US Embassy in Bahrain urged American citizens to remain vigilant following intelligence suggesting Iran could target locations in the country's capital.
