Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Lagos on Sunday to brief President Bola Tinubu on the security situation in Maiduguri and pay traditional Sallah homage.
Shettima’s visit follows a trip to Maiduguri at the president’s directive, where he assessed the aftermath of multiple bomb explosions that killed 23 people and injured 108, according to the Borno Police Command.
During his visit, Shettima engaged with victims, families, community leaders and authorities.
He also visited patients receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
“The Federal Government will decisively confront the perpetrators of these barbaric attacks,” Shettima said. “No cause justifies the killing of innocent people.”
He added that the administration is investing in equipment and logistics to strengthen the fight against terrorism nationwide, following directives issued to security chiefs by President Tinubu.
Later Sunday, Shettima is expected to lead serving governors in a courtesy visit to the president.
The meeting will felicitate with Tinubu on Eid-el-Fitr, and discuss boosting intergovernmental collaboration, enhancing rapid-response mechanisms, and improving national security monitoring.
The strategic visit underscores the administration’s commitment to proactive engagement and continuous oversight of security developments in Nigeria.
Shettima condemned the attacks as “barbaric” and assured Nigerians that the government is committed to protecting lives while holding perpetrators accountable.
