We Won't Succumb To Terrorists, Bandits - Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to tackling insecurity, declaring that Nigeria will not surrender to terrorists, bandits, or any form of criminal intimidation.

The President, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, made the declaration during the National Inter-Denominational Church Service held in Abuja as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

Tinubu acknowledged the economic hardship, insecurity, kidnappings, and displacement affecting many Nigerians, saying the government was aware of the challenges and shared in the pains of citizens.

According to him, the safe return of all persons held captive remains a national priority, while security agencies are being provided with the resources needed to protect lives, secure communities, and defend the country's territorial integrity.

“The government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation,” he said.

The President also pledged to intensify efforts to ease economic hardship and improve the welfare of Nigerians.

With preparations for the 2027 general elections gathering pace, Tinubu urged citizens to reject violence, hate speech, and divisive politics.

He specifically warned young people against participating in political thuggery, misinformation campaigns, ethnic abuse, and religious intolerance.

He further called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society groups, the media, and families to promote peace and national unity, while commending members of the armed forces and other security agencies for their role in safeguarding democracy.
