The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved the cancellation of 485 land documents in Abuja after they failed verification checks.
Officials say the affected documents were reviewed by the Department of Land Administration in collaboration with the Abuja Geographic Information Systems, also known as AGIS.
According to the authorities, many of the titles were confirmed to be fake and have now been removed from the official database.
In a public notice marked Batch One, the Federal Capital Territory Administration informed applicants who submitted Area Council land documents for regularisation that invalid applications had been nullified.
The cancelled titles cut across several Area Councils including Bwari, Abuja Municipal and Kuje.
Some of the affected locations include Ushafa Village Expansion Scheme, Kurudu Jikwoyi Relocation, Nyanya Phase Four Extension and the Kuchiyako One layout.
Among those listed are the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Ministry of Justice Staff Multi purpose Cooperative Society.
Under Nigerian law, all land in the FCT is vested in the Federal Government and must be processed through the office of the FCT Minister and formalised by AGIS.
The FCTA says the move is part of ongoing land reforms aimed at tackling forged documents, double allocations and irregular grants.
Officials also revealed that out of more than 261 thousand Area Council land documents submitted between 2006 and 2023, only a little over 8 thousand have been verified, leaving the majority still pending clearance.
