A woman who falsely accused her husband of defiling their children has been granted bail by a magistrate court in Enugu State.
The Enugu State Police Command said Okonkwo Chisom, 29, was arraigned on two counts of defamation and giving false information after investigations proved her husband, Okonkwo Ozioma, innocent. The case was adjourned for further hearing.
Police said the allegations, lodged on October 25 at the Emene Police Division, claimed that Ozioma had defiled their two daughters, aged 5 and 3, and threatened his wife if she disclosed it. A thorough investigation, however, found the claims were false. Records showed that during the alleged periods in 2024 and 2025, Chisom had traveled alone with the children to their hometown in Imo State.
Police also said the couple’s 7-year-old son, in handwritten statements, cleared his father of the accusations, revealing that his mother had coached him and his sisters to make false claims. Video evidence supported the children’s statements. Investigators added that Chisom tried to withdraw the case as the truth emerged.
Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised the State Intelligence Department detectives for their impartial investigation. He stressed that the command remains committed to fairness, justice, and professionalism, warning that anyone who makes false or malicious complaints would face prosecution.
