At least 11 people have died and 34,533 others have been affected by tropical windstorms, heavy rainfall and flash floods across 15 local government areas of Yobe State since May, according to the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, YOSEMA.
The agency said 303 people sustained injuries between May 8 and Aug. 10, 2026, while 9,845 households were affected by the disasters.
YOSEMA said 21,363 shelters and rooms were damaged or destroyed, with 468 households, comprising 1,120 people, displaced from their communities.
Karasuwa recorded the highest number of affected residents, with 3,288 people from 822 households impacted. Damaturu recorded 1,554 affected people, while 1,007 people were affected in Potiskum, where six injuries and one death were reported.
The agency attributed most of the casualties to collapsing buildings and mud walls weakened by prolonged rainfall, as well as falling roofing sheets, uprooted trees and flying debris.
Several public facilities, including schools and health care centres, were also damaged, disrupting access to essential services in some communities.
YOSEMA said government agencies, elected representatives, philanthropists and humanitarian organisations had provided assistance to affected communities.
However, the agency said significant humanitarian needs remain across several of the affected areas.
