Zamfara at 30: Lawal Commissions Secretariat, Mosque Projects

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, says his administration’s “rescue mission” is transforming the state through investments in infrastructure, public institutions and service delivery.

Lawal spoke as Zamfara marked its 30th anniversary with a series of events and project commissioning in Gusau.

The anniversary celebrations were attended by the state’s pioneer Military Administrator, Col. Jibril Bala Yakubu (rtd.), former governors Ahmed Sani Yarima and Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi, and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the National Independence Day parade and anniversary celebration at the Trade Fair Complex, the governor said Zamfara had moved from what he described as a period of despair into an era of execution, transparency and sustainable development.

He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants, traders and young people to work together to protect peace and overcome ethnic, political and sectarian divisions.

As part of the anniversary activities, Lawal on Friday commissioned Phase III of the renovated and modernised J.B. Yakubu Secretariat in Gusau.

The governor said the project is aimed at rebuilding government institutions and creating a modern, technology-enabled and results-oriented public service.

He said the secretariat’s modernisation would improve coordination among ministries, departments and agencies, strengthen communication and support faster implementation of government decisions.

The J.B. Yakubu Secretariat houses several ministries, departments and agencies responsible for key areas of governance and service delivery.

The pioneer Military Administrator, Col. Jibril Bala Yakubu, commended the governor’s administration for its projects, particularly in infrastructure, education and healthcare.

Also on Friday, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, commissioned the reconstructed and remodelled Jumu’at Mosque, known as Yardole, along with its adjoining shopping complex.

The mosque, named after Islamic scholar Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, is also expected to serve as an Islamic and research learning centre.
