Dauda Lawal has received an Award of Excellence from the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office for his administration’s efforts in inclusive governance and social protection delivery in Zamfara State.
Lawal received the award on Thursday during a stakeholder engagement with local government chairmen at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the governor commended the Federal Government, the World Bank, and development partners for supporting reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s social protection system.
He praised the expansion of the National Social Register and the integration of the National Identification Number, saying the measures would improve transparency, efficiency, and accountability in service delivery.
Lawal said insecurity in Zamfara had worsened displacement, poverty, and food insecurity, making effective social protection critical for vulnerable groups, including women, children, and rural communities.

He also stressed the importance of local governments in community mobilisation, data validation, and monitoring intervention programmes.
“Social protection interventions must be better coordinated, transparent, data-driven, and targeted to ensure resources reach those who need them most,” he said.
The governor further called for broader investments in livelihoods, healthcare, education, agriculture, and financial inclusion to help vulnerable citizens achieve long-term economic stability.
Presenting the award, Funmi Olotu said the recognition reflected Lawal’s commitment to improving social protection and promoting inclusive governance in the state.
