Governor Dauda Lawal has called for intensified prayers for peace and stability in Zamfara State and across Nigeria, as Muslims marked Eid al-Adha 2026.
In a statewide broadcast on Wednesday, Lawal congratulated Muslim faithful and described Eid al-Adha as a festival of sacrifice, obedience and devotion rooted in the example of Prophet Ibrahim.
“I felicitate with Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Adha 2026,” the governor said. “The sacrifice performed during Eid is symbolic of Prophet Ibrahim’s submission to Allah.”
He urged residents, especially pilgrims, to continue praying for peace amid ongoing security challenges in the state.
Lawal said his administration had recorded progress in the fight against banditry, noting that displaced communities were gradually returning home.
“We have made progress in the fight against banditry, which is why dispersed communities are returning to their homes,” he said.
He cited the recent return of thousands of internally displaced persons to Fegin Kanawa village in Gusau Local Government Area after more than a year away from their homes.
According to him, sustained progress depends on collective prayers and continued security efforts, particularly during religious celebrations.
“We are committed to ensuring the safe return of all displaced persons to their homes,” Lawal said. “Such successes are only possible due to our collective prayers. I urge us to pray more, especially during sacred religious festivals.”
The governor joined other Muslim faithful for Eid prayers at the Gusau Central Eid prayer ground.
