The Zamfara State Government has signed an Air Route Development Memorandum of Understanding with XEJet Limited to introduce scheduled commercial flights between Gusau International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The agreement, signed Monday, is expected to improve air connectivity to Zamfara and support business, investment, tourism and economic activities in the state.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, XEJet will operate biweekly flights beginning next month under the agreement.
The signing ceremony was chaired by Zamfara Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni, while the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada, signed on behalf of the state government.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mummuni said the partnership was part of the government’s efforts to improve transportation infrastructure and make movement of people and goods easier.
“The main goal of constructing the airport is to make it easier and more efficient for people and goods to move, which should help boost the economy,” he said.
Mummuni said the Gusau International Airport was constructed from scratch and completed within two years, adding that improved accessibility would help attract investors and create opportunities for economic growth.
He said Governor Dauda Lawal had been actively engaging international investors and donor agencies interested in Zamfara.
“This milestone of initiating a commercial flight will draw potential investors,” Mummuni said. “Improving the state's accessibility is our top priority, as it will create a more welcoming environment for business growth and investment.”
The state government said the new route would also make it easier for businesses, investors and visitors to access Zamfara, while strengthening the economic value of the newly completed airport.
