Police Smash Alleged Fake Engine Oil Syndicate

The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command, has arrested a suspect over an alleged large-scale engine oil adulteration racket and recovered 280 gallons of counterfeit products distributed across several states.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Adeogoke M. Fayoade, said the operation followed a petition alleging the illegal adulteration of a complainant’s engine oil product, which prompted a discreet investigation by the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit.

Police said operatives arrested Ngwu Samuel Ebezimakor, 26, in connection with the crime. He reportedly confessed to producing and importing adulterated engine oil from China and distributing the counterfeit products across Nigeria.

According to the police, intelligence-led raids conducted across Imo, Enugu, Kano, Lagos and Ogun states led to the recovery of 280 gallons of the fake engine oil.

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) confirmed that the recovered products failed to meet the requirements of Nigerian Industrial Standards after laboratory examination, corroborating the allegations.

Fayoade reaffirmed the command’s resolve to combat product adulteration and economic sabotage, stressing that the police would continue to protect consumers and legitimate businesses.

“The command remains committed to safeguarding consumers and ensuring that perpetrators of economic crimes face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

Police said investigations are ongoing and urged the public to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
