An empty tipper truck was left hanging from the railings of Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday after an incident that prompted an evacuation operation.
The incident occurred inward Mowe, Ogun State, at about 7 a.m., according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
In a statement shared on its official X account, the agency said another truck spilled its contents onto the road in a separate incident in the same area.
“An empty tipper is seen hanging on the railings of the bridge, and another flatbed truck spilled its contents on the road,” LASTMA stated.
The agency said a tow truck had arrived to remove the affected vehicles, while police officers from Adigboluja were also at the scene.
“Tow truck on ground for evacuation and police officers from Adigboluja are also at the scene,” it added.
LASTMA said its officers were managing traffic towards Mowe and that movement remained smooth at the time of its report.
“Officers are on ground managing the traffic movement inward Mowe as traffic is still good at the moment,” the agency stated.
The authority did not disclose the cause of the tipper incident or report any injuries in its update.
In a separate development, LASTMA reported a broken-down, loaded DAF lorry occupying about 70% of the road at Shasha Roundabout, inward Akowonjo Roundabout, in Lagos.
“There’s a broken-down loaded DAF lorry with mechanical faults occupying about 70 per cent of the road at Shasha Roundabout, inward Akowonjo Roundabout,” the agency said.
It added that a tow truck had been contacted to remove the lorry, while officers were managing traffic around the affected area.
The Kara Bridge incident comes amid repeated traffic disruptions along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, one of the major routes linking Lagos with Ogun State and other parts of southwestern Nigeria.
The bridge has recently undergone repairs to damaged expansion joints, which the Federal Ministry of Works said had deteriorated and posed safety risks to motorists.
In September, a container-laden truck crashed near the bridge during the repair period, causing traffic congestion and leaving three people injured, according to LASTMA.
Motorists are advised to drive carefully around the bridge and obey traffic officials’ instructions while emergency teams work to clear road obstructions.
