The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has directed all its candidates for the 2027 elections not to travel outside Nigeria until after the polls.
State party chairman Cornelius Ojelabi gave the directive Friday during the inauguration of the APC campaign council in Ikeja.
Ojelabi told the candidates to cooperate with the campaign council and remain available for campaign activities across the state.
“No candidate is allowed to travel outside the country until after the general election,” he said.
The chairman also urged party members to conduct their campaigns peacefully and avoid hatred, thuggery and violence.
“Let our campaign be devoid of hatred, thuggery and violence,” Ojelabi said.
The 1,235-member campaign council has 20 directorates and includes former governors, former deputy governors, former council chairmen and elected party members, according to the party.
Ojelabi said the APC would adopt a grassroots campaign strategy, with party leaders working across senatorial districts, local government areas, wards and polling units.
“Our emphasis this time will be more on ‘operation man your polling booth’,” he said, adding that Lagos has 13,565 polling booths.
The chairman said the party was targeting five million votes from about seven million projected voters in the state.
The APC governorship candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, urged members to base their campaign on facts, data and the records of the party's governments.
“It is not about emotion.
"It is about data.
"It is about records,” Hamzat said.
The campaign council is chaired by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with Hamzat as deputy chairman and former Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro as director-general.
