ADC Crisis: Amaechi Warns Court Judgment Could Trigger Civil War

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has warned that the Federal High Court judgment nullifying the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could trigger a civil war if not properly managed.

Amaechi, the party's vice presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, made the warning during an interview on Mainland 98.3 FM.

He said he had met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the party's presidential candidate, and its chairman after news of the judgment broke.

“When we heard this, we quickly met, myself and the presidential candidate and the chairman of the party, and we said, ‘Please, lower the tempo down,’” he said.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, had on Thursday nullified the National Working Committee led by former Senate President David Mark.

The court also invalidated decisions taken by the leadership, including the process that produced Atiku as the party's presidential candidate and the nomination of other candidates for the 2027 elections.

The ruling followed a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former ADC deputy national chairman, who challenged the emergence of Mark and other party leaders.

Amaechi accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of encouraging the crisis to weaken the opposition, insisting that there was no internal disagreement within the ADC.

“No, no, there's no internal rift in our party.

"None.

"Absolutely none.

"It is just the fear of APC,” he said.

The ADC has since filed an appeal and sought a stay of execution.

The APC has denied involvement in the dispute, describing it as an internal party matter.

Amaechi, however, expressed confidence that the ADC would contest the elections, saying, “We will be on the ballot.

"Be rest assured we will be on the ballot.”
