Anthony Joshua SUV Driver Arrested After Crash That Killed Two

Police in Ogun State have arrested the driver of the Lexus SUV carrying boxer Anthony Joshua after a crash on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway that killed two members of his team.

The driver, identified by some reports as Kayode Adeniyi, 47, is in custody and giving a statement to investigators, the Ogun State police spokesman said.

“The driver of the Lexus SUV is currently in custody in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case. Investigations are ongoing,” he wrote on social media.

Two of Joshua’s close associates, strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and trainer Latif Ayodele, died at the scene.

Joshua was taken to hospital with injuries and later discharged to continue his recovery.

Preliminary findings by the Federal Road Safety Corps blame the crash on excessive speed and a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre.

“The primary causes of the crash being excessive speed and wrongful overtaking constitute serious traffic violations,” the FRSC said.

Some investigators also reported that a tyre burst may have caused the vehicle to lose control before it hit a stationary truck.

Police said the driver of the stationary truck fled the scene and is being sought.

Authorities have not yet filed charges, but several reports say the driver may face reckless driving counts once investigations are complete.
