APC Chieftain Laments Kwankwaso’s Move to ADC, Warns of 2027 Fallout

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alwan Hassan, has warned that the ruling party could face serious challenges in the 2027 general elections following the reported defection of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking on the development on Arise TV, Hassan admitted that losing Kwankwaso, one of the North’s most influential political figures, could weaken the APC’s electoral strength.

He said the party is “in big trouble for losing Kwankwaso to ADC,” stressing that the former governor commands a loyal grassroots following, especially in Kano and the wider North-West.

Kwankwaso, who was the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in 2023, is widely regarded as the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, a strong political bloc in northern Nigeria.

Hassan noted that Kwankwaso’s political structure could significantly boost the ADC, which has recently emerged as a coalition platform for opposition figures ahead of 2027.

According to him, the defection “is not something the APC should take lightly,” warning that it could reshape the political landscape.

The development comes amid increasing activity within the ADC, which has been positioning itself as a major opposition force against the APC government.

Party leaders have accused the ruling party of attempting to undermine its growing influence, even as it builds alliances across the country.

A number of political analysts and observers hold the opinion that Kwankwaso’s move could alter voting dynamics in key northern states, where his influence remains strong.
