Breaking: CAF Reschedules 2026 WAFCON to July 2026

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rescheduled the dates of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup (“WAFCON”) 2026, moving the tournament to a new window from 25th July to 16th August 2026.

The competition was originally set to take place in Morocco from 17th March to 3rd April 2026, following the granting of hosting rights in October 2024.

However, after consultations between CAF and its partners “FIFA and other stakeholders,” CAF has decided to adjust the schedule in response to “certain unforeseen circumstances.”

CAF’s statement explains that the change was made “to ensure the success of this important women’s competition,” highlighting the organisation’s priority to deliver a high‑quality event for teams, fans, and partners alike.

Preparations for WAFCON 2026 are already underway, and in its announcement CAF reaffirmed confidence in those efforts, saying that “all the parties are confident that it will be very successful.”

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is the flagship tournament for women’s national teams across the continent and also plays a pivotal role in qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

While the decision to shift dates comes relatively late in the calendar, CAF maintains that collaboration with FIFA and other key stakeholders guided the adjustments to protect the integrity and organisation of the competition.

Further details and clarifications on fixtures and logistics are expected as preparations continue ahead of the rescheduled July–August window.
