Burna Boy to Cover Funeral Costs After Stockton Birthday-party Shooting

Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy has offered to pay funeral costs for the four people killed in a mass shooting at a children’s birthday party in California, USA, on 29 November, city leaders said on Wednesday.

The attack at a banquet hall in north Stockton, California left four dead — three children, ages 8, 9 and 14, and a 21-year-old — and at least 11 others wounded, police and local media reported. More than 100 people were at the party when gunfire broke out.

City officials and community leaders have welcomed Burna Boy’s offer. The embattled singer, who is currently in the US for his No Sign of Weakness Tour, first learned about the shooting on U.S. radio. He then reached out to talent manager Wack 100, who helped connect him with Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee, local reports said.

Vice Mayor Lee praised the gesture as “a powerful example of community support.”

Local groups have held vigils and set up grief counselling for families. Authorities and the FBI have offered rewards — together worth tens of thousands of dollars — for information leading to arrests.

Investigators say the shooting appears to have been targeted, and they are asking the public to share any video or photos from the scene.

As of Wednesday, police had made no arrests, and the investigation was continuing. Community leaders said they hope the support from Burna Boy and others will help families pay funeral bills and begin to heal after the tragedy.
