Federal Government Moves to Establish National Resource Centre for Persons With Disabilities

The Federal Government has announced plans to establish a national resource centre to support persons with disabilities, particularly those with sensory impairments, as part of efforts to improve inclusion and access to services.

The initiative is being driven by the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, which said the centre will provide critical support, including assistive technologies, training and rehabilitation services for people living with disabilities.

Officials said the facility is designed to serve as a hub for innovation, research and capacity building, helping to bridge gaps in education, communication and access for persons with sensory challenges.

According to the commission, “the resource centre will enhance access to assistive technologies and services for persons with disabilities,” adding that it will “promote inclusion and improve quality of life.”

The government said the move aligns with its broader commitment to protect the rights of vulnerable groups and ensure no Nigerian is left behind in national development efforts.

Stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that improved infrastructure and targeted support will help address long-standing barriers faced by persons with disabilities across the country.
