IBTD 9: Government Day School Edges Great Solid Rock

Government Day Secondary School, Karu, Abuja, defeated Great Solid Rock College, Lagos, by a clear margin in an intellectual debate at the I Beg To Differ Tournament of Champions.

The schools debated the motion, “Campaign Promises Should Be Enforceable,” with Government Day arguing against the motion and Great Solid Rock supporting the motion.

Government Day Secondary School’s Joseph Majesty and Uko Precious, in their opposition arguments, noted that time and tide can change the course of a politician's tenure, citing changes to key decisions by some of the world's most revered leaders such as Barack Obama of the United States of America.

Government Day School also argued that some promises are made from an opposition standpoint and from a lack of full information on the economic and social realities as safeguarded by the incumbent.

They argued that full information sometimes leads to a switch in stances which should not be punished by any legal framework.

Supporting the motion, Great Solid Rock represented by Obagade Johnson and Anyadiegwu Faith, argued that enforceable campaign promises put politicians on their toes.

They argued that enforceable campaign promises protect Voters' choices, while making sure that politicians do proper research to ensure that they campaign responsibly for the posts they are vying for.

Unlike their previous debates, Government Day Secondary School took the day right from the collation of the judges scores, earning 70 points with their arguments from the astute panel of judges, to the 66 earned by their opponents Great Solid Rock.

The audience votes bumped up both school's scores to 75.8 and 70.2, to emphatically certify Government Day Secondary School, Karu, Abuja, as the winners of this debate.

Government Day Secondary School therefore extends their lead at the top of the standings in Group B, positioning them for an epic matchup in the knockout rounds.
