INEC Introduces QR Codes to Ease PVC Collection in Lagos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has introduced QR codes to help eligible voters locate centres where they can collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Ayobami Salami, announced the initiative on Tuesday during a briefing on the commission’s preparations for the elections.

INEC said voters could scan the QR codes available on its official website and social media platforms to identify their designated collection centres.

Salami urged eligible voters to collect their cards promptly and keep them safe, stressing that the PVC remains necessary for voter accreditation on election day.

“PVCs are currently available for persons who registered between August 25 and December 10, 2025, as well as those who registered between 2011 and 2022 but have yet to collect their cards,” he said.

He added that cards for people who registered between Jan. 5 and July 26, 2026, were not yet available.

The commission said collection arrangements for those cards would be announced through official channels.

The QR code initiative comes as INEC intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections and seeks to make voter information more accessible.

Lagos has 7,488,633 registered voters, the highest number of any state in Nigeria, according to information released by the commission.

INEC has also urged registered voters to check their details in the voters’ register and report errors during the display and verification exercise, which began Oct. 9 and ends Oct. 15.

The commission said it was working on other preparations, including testing voter accreditation devices, improving electronic transmission of election results, planning logistics and training election personnel.

It urged voters to rely on official channels for accurate information about PVC collection and other election procedures.
