Israel Renews Strikes on South Lebanon Despite US-Iran Ceasefire

Israel has carried out fresh airstrikes on southern Lebanon, raising fears that a fragile Middle East ceasefire may be breaking down.

The attacks came just hours after a truce linked to tensions between the United States and Iran, but Israeli officials said the agreement does not cover their conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

According to reports, Israeli forces launched a “large-scale” wave of strikes targeting what they described as Hezbollah positions across southern Lebanon and parts of Beirut.

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said the ceasefire “does not apply to Lebanon,” insisting operations against Hezbollah would continue.

The Israeli military said it targeted “missile launchers and command centres,” accusing Hezbollah of operating within civilian areas, a claim denied by Lebanese officials.

Lebanese authorities described the renewed attacks as a “very dangerous turning point,” warning that the situation could worsen if strikes continue.

Hezbollah, on its part, said it had paused attacks under the broader ceasefire but warned that the truce could collapse if Israel does not also stop its operations.

The renewed violence has led to civilian casualties and widespread damage, with many people forced to flee their homes.

Aid agencies say the humanitarian situation is worsening, with over a million people already displaced.

The latest strikes highlight growing uncertainty over the ceasefire and fears that the conflict could spread further across the region.
