Labour Party Calls NEC Meeting to Ratify 2027 Candidates

The Labour Party has fixed 11th of June for a meeting of its National Executive Committee to ratify the results of its recently concluded primary elections and approve candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The party disclosed the development in a statement issued by its factional National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, who said the meeting was convened in line with Article 28 of the party’s 2026 Constitution.

According to Asogwa, who is with the Nenadi Usman-led faction of the party, the NEC session will bring together statutory members of the committee, candidates who emerged from the primaries, party organs, representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), members of the media and other stakeholders.

He said the gathering would formally validate the outcomes of the primaries conducted nationwide and authorize the submission of successful candidates’ names to INEC.

“The meeting is expected to ratify the results of the party’s primary elections conducted across the country and approve the submission of candidates that emerged from the exercise to INEC in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution,” Asogwa said.

He also announced that the issuance of Certificates of Return would begin after the ratification process.

“The presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates for the offices of President, Governor, Senate, and House of Representatives shall commence immediately after the ratification of the primary election results by the NEC,” he stated.

Asogwa described the meeting as a key step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, noting that it would be the first NEC meeting since the party’s recent national convention and the emergence of candidates for the polls.
