Lagos APC Says State’s Security Model Now a National Benchmark

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday said the “Lagos Security Vision” has become the “gold standard for sub-national security architecture in Nigeria,” praising two decades of work by former and current leaders.

In a statement signed by party spokesman Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, the APC firmly credited former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for building a “robust, multi-layered security ecosystem” that, the party said, “is not a matter of rhetoric but of deliberate and sustained action.”

The release highlighted six pillars of the Lagos model, starting with the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), which the APC called “Nigeria’s most effective sub-national security funding framework.”

It also praised “intelligence-driven policing and technology adoption,” noting use of cameras, digital crime mapping and early-warning systems.

Other pillars include “community participation and grassroots vigilance,” “strategic inter-agency cooperation,” and investment in emergency response through the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

The statement said these measures help Lagos “enjoy relative peace, economic stability, and uninterrupted socio-political harmony.”

The APC argued the state’s continuity of policy means Lagos is ready for a possible rollout of state police, saying Lagos “already operates a complementary, intelligence-driven security architecture that can be seamlessly scaled and formalised.”

The party also warned that some “opposition elements prefer to grandstand and exploit national security concerns,” while Lagos has “chosen the path of responsibility.”

The statement closed with a direct appeal: “Lagos leads. Others can follow. Nigeria will be better for it.”
