Lagos APC Tells Opposition to Focus on 2031 Elections

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged opposition parties to shift their attention to the 2031 elections, saying they are not ready for the current political cycle.

In a statement on Wednesday, APC spokesman Seye Oladejo said while opposition parties are important in a democracy, their actions must be “grounded in realism, responsibility, and respect for the mandate freely given by the people.”

He said recent off-season elections show that Nigerians still have confidence in the APC.

In contrast, he claimed the opposition has shown a “glaring lack of preparation, cohesion, and seriousness.”

Oladejo criticised ongoing talks among opposition parties to form alliances ahead of elections. He described the effort as “a last-minute scramble” that “exposes disarray.”

He added, “Is the opposition attempting to turn a serious democratic exercise into a political lottery, fueled by little more than wishful thinking?”

The APC advised opposition groups to focus on rebuilding and planning for the future.

“We strongly advise opposition elements to… prepare meaningfully for the 2031 elections,” the statement said.

Oladejo also stressed that governance should come first.

“Governance is a serious responsibility, not a perpetual campaign,” he said, adding that the APC remains committed to improving infrastructure, the economy, and security.

He called on political actors to promote peace and stability, saying democracy requires “maturity, foresight, and respect for electoral outcomes.”

The APC said it remains focused on “building a greater Lagos for all,” while urging the opposition to develop “credible alternatives” for future elections.
