Lagos Begins 35-Day Lekki-Epe Road Repairs

The Lagos State Government began a 35-day rehabilitation of damaged sections of the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway on Thursday, October 15, warning motorists to prepare for traffic disruptions during the work.

The repairs cover the stretch from Bonny Camp to Admiralty Way Junction and sections around Victoria Garden City (VGC).

Olufemi Daramola, the governor’s special adviser on infrastructure, announced the plan during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

He said traffic diversions would be introduced to reduce congestion and protect road users during the exercise.

Daramola urged residents, businesses and motorists to cooperate with the government, especially as traffic is expected to increase ahead of the festive season.

“Before embarking on a new project, we always create an opportunity to engage with you, hear your views and incorporate your feedback into our planning and implementation,” he said.

The government said the rehabilitation was expected to improve road safety and ease movement along the busy corridor, which connects residential areas, businesses and major industrial facilities.

The road provides access to the Lekki Free Zone, Dangote Refinery, Dangote Fertiliser Factory and Lekki Deep Sea Port.

It also serves educational institutions, including Pan-Atlantic University and Lagos Business School.

At the meeting, Prince Akin Fadoju, chairman of the Victoria Island and Ikoyi Residents Association, called for better drainage to tackle flooding in the area.

Other stakeholders urged the government to deploy traffic officials throughout the construction period, maintain alternative routes and provide adequate security for road users.

Daramola said Lagos had already reconstructed or rehabilitated 69.44 kilometres of the expressway, including sections built with concrete and flexible pavement.

The latest work forms part of wider efforts to improve the road network along the rapidly developing Lekki-Epe corridor.
