Mixed Reactions Trail Obi, Kwankwaso's Move to NDC

Nigerians have weighed in on the recent move by Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), with many describing it as a major shift in the country’s political landscape.

In a street interview conducted in Lagos by our correspondent, some respondents said the ADC made a “big mistake” by allowing both politicians to leave, noting that Obi’s popularity gave the party national relevance.

“Peter Obi was the main figure giving people hope in that party,” one respondent said, adding that his exit could weaken the ADC significantly.

Others, however, argued that the move could strengthen a new political alliance, popularly called the “OK movement,” combining Obi’s widespread support with Kwankwaso’s strong base in northern Nigeria.

“The combination is a game changer,” another interviewee said. “You now have influence from both the North and the South.”

Some participants also pointed to growing public frustration with established parties, suggesting that undecided voters could swing toward the new alliance in the next election.

Still, not all opinions were the same.

One respondent said the ADC may not have been prepared for the sudden rise in their popularity and therefore could not manage the situation effectively.

Overall, many agreed that the development could reshape political competition ahead of future elections.
