Nigeria Revenue Service Introduces Unified Tax ID System

The Nigeria Revenue Service has introduced a new unified Tax ID system that will allow Nigerians and businesses to use one tax identity nationwide, replacing multiple tax numbers previously issued by different agencies.

For most Nigerians, the process will not require a fresh registration.

Under the new system, an individual’s National Identification Number will automatically serve as their Tax ID, while businesses will use their Corporate Affairs Commission registration number.

The agency said people who want to retrieve or confirm their Tax ID can do so online through the new tax portal by entering their NIN or CAC number and basic personal details.

According to officials, the move is meant to make tax payment and registration easier, reduce repeated records and improve coordination between federal and state tax authorities.

The reform is part of the broader tax changes introduced by President Bola Tinubu in 2025, including the transition from the Federal Inland Revenue Service to the Nigeria Revenue Service.

The NRS also said Nigerians do not need a physical Tax ID card because the number is digitally linked to their identity records.
