Nigerian Forces Kill Three Terrorists, Recover Weapons in Zamfara Operation

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed three suspected terrorists and recovered weapons and ammunition during an operation in Zamfara State, the military said on Thursday.

In a statement signed by Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the Joint Task Force North West said troops carried out a “fighting patrol” in Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji local government areas on 7th of May as part of efforts to “deny terrorists freedom of action” in the area.

The troops reportedly encountered armed men at Doumbourum Village, leading to what the military described as “a fierce firefight.”

According to the statement, “the gallant troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower,” forcing them to flee “after suffering significant casualties.”

The military said three suspected terrorists were killed during the operation.

Troops also recovered “one AK-47 rifle, one machine gun, one locally fabricated handgun, seven rifle magazines and a total of 571 rounds of ammunition.”

The statement added that “no casualty was recorded among the troops during the operation.”

Operation FANSAN YAMMA is a Joint Task Force set up to tackle terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes in Nigeria’s North West region, especially in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kebbi states.

The military described the latest operation as part of its “continued operational successes” against criminal groups in the region.

It said the achievements show “the unwavering commitment, resilience, and professionalism of the troops in the ongoing fight against terrorism.”

The task force also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with “timely and credible information” to improve ongoing operations and help restore peace in Zamfara and nearby states.
