Nigerian Railway Corporation Schedules Three Extra Lagos–Ibadan Train Trips to Ease Eid‑el‑Fitr Travel

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced plans to operate three additional train trips on the Lagos–Ibadan Train Service (LITS) corridor on Monday, 23rd March 2026, as part of efforts to manage increased passenger traffic during the Eid‑el‑Fitr travel period.

In a statement issued in Lagos, the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, said the extra trips are intended to “ease passenger movement and provide more travel options for commuters returning after the Eid‑el‑Fitr celebrations.”

According to the schedule, departures from Lagos’ Mobolaji Johnson Station, Ebute Metta will be at 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

The additional trips are designed to complement the regular service and help travellers avoid long waits and congestion at train stations.

The NRC has in recent days announced a series of special Sallah train services across its major corridors to facilitate seamless travel during the festive season.

This includes additional trips on other routes to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger volumes.

Unyimadu reiterated the corporation’s commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient rail services to Nigerians.

He urged passengers to “plan their journeys in advance, arrive early at stations, and comply with ticketing and security procedures” to ensure smooth travel experiences.

The NRC’s move reflects growing demand for rail travel between Lagos and Ibadan — one of West Africa’s busiest inter‑city corridors — as rail remains a preferred alternative to road transport.

Officials say the extra trips are temporary and part of the corporation’s festival‑period adjustments, after which normal schedules will resume.
