Okpebholo Presents ₦939.85 Billion “Budget of Hope and Growth” to Edo Assembly

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo on Tuesday presented a ₦939.85 billion 2026 appropriation bill to the State House of Assembly, calling it the “Budget of Hope and Growth.”

The plan, he said, is meant to “build on the foundation laid in 2025” and deliver “development the people can see and feel.”

The proposal gives ₦637 billion (68%) to capital projects and ₦302 billion (32%) to recurrent costs.

Okpebholo said the large capital share will fast-track roads, schools, hospitals, water, housing and other “high-impact economic projects” across the state.

He said the budget will be funded from multiple sources: internally generated revenue (IGR) of about ₦160 billion, Federal allocations (FAAC) estimated at ₦480 billion, capital receipts and grants of ₦153 billion, and ₦146 billion from public-private partnerships.

Sector plans include ₦614.2 billion for the economic sector (agriculture, roads, transport and energy), ₦148.9 billion for social services (education and health), and ₦157.7 billion for governance and service delivery.

The justice sector was allocated ₦19 billion, while local government and regional development will focus on rural electrification, water and security outposts.

Okpebholo listed achievements from 2025 he said the budget will build on: road projects, school and health upgrades, larger farming programmes, and security moves such as an anti-cult law, 80 Hilux vans, 400 motorcycles for security agencies and absorption of 2,500 officers into the Edo State Security Corps.

The governor thanked President Bola Tinubu, the state assembly and local leaders for their support and said his SHINE agenda — Security, Health, Infrastructure, Natural Resources/Agriculture and Education — anchors the 2026 plan.

The bill now goes to lawmakers for review and approval.
