Oriire Abduction: Governor Makinde Confirms Old Oyo National Park as Location of Captives

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has disclosed that pupils and teachers abducted from schools in the Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities remain held within the expansive Old Oyo National Park corridor, 27 days after their kidnapping.

In his latest newsletter shared in the early hours of Friday, the governor addressed the prolonged captivity of the victims in the Oriire Local Government Area, describing the situation as deeply distressing for the affected families.

“It is extremely difficult for me to even ask how you are doing.

“It has been 27 days since our children and teachers were forcefully taken from their schools in the Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities of the Oriire Local Government Area,” Makinde stated.

The governor acknowledged that his previous reassurances may feel inadequate to those waiting for their loved ones.

“I know that many times I have said, ‘We will get them home safely.’

“But I also know that having heard these words so often, without seeing that outcome yet, they may now sound hollow or empty.

“Please trust that they are not,” he said.

Makinde noted that the vast size of the terrain, which covers approximately 2,500 square kilometres, presents significant operational challenges for security forces.

However, he emphasised that every credible lead is being pursued.

“One thing I can say is that our security reports indicate that they remain within the wider Old Oyo National Park axis,” he confirmed.

The governor urged residents to support the rescue efforts by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious movements to the state’s toll-free emergency number, 615.
