Osun Polls: APC Studying Election Results in Preparation for Next Step – Media Director

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is studying the results of Saturday’s governorship election before deciding its next move.

The party said it was reviewing results from the 332 wards across the state after its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, lost to incumbent Gov. Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party.

Adeleke was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday after polling 511,067 votes across the 30 local government areas.

Oyebamiji received 444,815 votes, giving Adeleke a margin of 66,252 votes.

The APC candidate won in 11 local government areas, while Adeleke won 19.

The APC said it would carefully examine the results before announcing its position on the outcome.

“We are studying the results across the 332 wards in the state to determine our next line of action,” the party said, according to a statement by the APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, per the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The party’s position comes after a closely watched election in which voters turned out across the state to choose between Adeleke, Oyebamiji and other candidates.

Adeleke, who contested for a second term, maintained strong support in parts of the state, including Ede North, where he polled 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283.

He also won Osogbo, the state capital, with 36,480 votes to the APC candidate’s 30,474.

Oyebamiji, however, recorded victories in several areas, including Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakunmosa West, Irewole, Atakunmosa East, Isokan, Ola-Oluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.

The APC has not said whether it will challenge the result in court.

Its decision is expected after a review of the polling-unit and ward-level results.

The election was generally reported as peaceful, with residents in Osogbo, Ile-Ife and Ede later celebrating Adeleke’s victory.
