The Peoples Democratic Party has said its National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, remain in charge despite a recent Supreme Court judgment on the party’s leadership.
The party made the clarification on Friday in Abuja, dismissing claims that the court ruling created a leadership vacuum.
PDP National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed said some party members had misrepresented the judgment.
He explained that the Supreme Court only ruled on the validity of the party’s Ibadan convention.
“This remains the sole substance of the judgment, contrary to the false narratives being circulated,” he said.
“The judgment did not uphold any suspension or expulsion of any officer of the party.”
He added that the issue of removing any party official was never part of the case.
“The issue of suspension or expulsion was never before the Federal High Court, let alone the Court of Appeal or the Supreme Court,” he said.
Mohammed insisted that the party’s leadership structure is still valid.
“There has never been a vacuum, obstruction, or absence of leadership in our party,” he said.
He added that the PDP remains “lawful and fully operational” under Mohammed and Anyanwu, whose positions are “duly recognised.”
The spokesman also rejected claims that the party’s Board of Trustees had taken over leadership, saying such a move is not supported by the party’s constitution.
The PDP accused some members of trying to mislead the public about the judgment and urged Nigerians to disregard what it called false narratives.
The Supreme Court had earlier invalidated the party’s Ibadan convention, which had deepened internal disagreements.
