A Russian strike killed four people and wounded five others in southeastern Ukraine on Saturday, Ukrainian authorities said, as Moscow and Kyiv continued exchanging long-range missile and drone attacks.
Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration, said the strike hit the city of Kamianske.
Five people were wounded, including a 30-year-old woman who was receiving intensive care.
The attack came as diplomatic efforts to end the war continued. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed a ceasefire with Russia ahead of an expected visit to the region by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
U.S. President Donald Trump said Witkoff and Kushner, his lead negotiators on ending the war, had a proposal aimed at breaking the diplomatic deadlock.
The latest strike came amid a wider increase in Russian attacks on Ukraine.
Russian drones and missiles have recently targeted Kyiv and other parts of the country, with attacks taking place both during the day and at night.
On Friday, a Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service in central Kyiv.
Zelenskyy said the drone was aimed directly at the office of the agency’s head.
Ukrainian authorities said several people were wounded.
The war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has continued despite repeated attempts to secure a peace agreement.
Zelenskyy has urged Moscow to support a temporary halt in airstrikes while diplomatic talks take place.
