President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian filmmakers Damilola Osikoya and Nora Awolowo after their film, Black Market, helped set a Guinness World Record in Lagos.
The record was achieved Saturday, 26th September, when 51,000 people attended a screening of the Nollywood crime thriller at Tafawa Balewa Square.
The feat surpassed the previous record of 43,624 people, set in 2015 during a screening of the Filipino film Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena.
In a statement issued Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the achievement as evidence of the talent driving Nigeria’s creative industry.
“President Tinubu celebrates the filmmakers for their creativity, enterprise and ambition, describing their achievement as further evidence of the extraordinary talent driving Nigeria’s creative industry,” the statement said.
The president also said Nigeria’s creative economy was creating businesses, jobs and new markets for Nigerian talent.
“The President says Nigeria’s creative economy is building businesses, creating jobs and opening new markets for Nigerian talent, while film, music, fashion and art carry the country’s stories and culture to audiences worldwide,” the statement added.
Tinubu said the Black Market achievement showed what Nigerian creativity could achieve when combined with enterprise and scale.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating opportunities for young Nigerians to build businesses from their talents.
The president commended everyone involved in the film and record-breaking screening and wished the team greater success.
