Tinubu Praises NDLEA Over Major Drug Bust

President Bola Tinubu has praised the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for breaking up a Nigerian-Mexican drug trafficking syndicate and shutting down what officials described as a large illegal drug production network in Nigeria.

In a statement released by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the operation as a major victory against organised crime and drug trafficking.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.) had announced the breakthrough after weeks of intelligence gathering and joint operations involving international partners.

According to the President, the operation led to “the arrest of foreign nationals, local kingpins and other collaborators, as well as the seizure of chemicals and illicit drugs valued at over $360 million.”

Tinubu said the success showed “exceptional professionalism, courage, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding society from the devastating effects of narcotics.”

He also commended NDLEA officers for their efforts during the operation.

“I commend the bravery, resilience, and dedication displayed by operatives of the NDLEA throughout this mission,” the President said.

“I urge them not to be complacent in confronting the menace of drug trafficking.”

Tinubu warned that drug trafficking was becoming a bigger problem in West Africa.

“West Africa has become a great concern in the global war against narcotics as drug barons turn our region into a transit hub,” he said.

The President added that illegal drugs threaten the future of young people and called on Nigerians to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.

“This landmark success is a strong message that our security agencies will not tolerate organised crime and criminality anywhere in the country,” Tinubu said.
