Troops Rescue Two Kidnap Victims, Kill Suspected Kidnapper in Lagos

Nigerian Army troops rescued two kidnap victims and killed a suspected kidnapper after a joint operation in Igbonla, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The victims, identified as Kelvin Okafor and Alex Anato, were abducted while working on a farm Friday, according to an Army statement.

Troops of 65 Battalion carried out the operation with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes after receiving “credible information” about the abduction.

“Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the joint security team mobilised to the area and closed in on the kidnappers' location,” the statement said.

The kidnappers abandoned the victims and fled into a nearby forest after seeing the advancing security team.

The troops and other security personnel chased the fleeing suspects.

The operation led to the “neutralisation of one of the kidnappers,” while two others escaped deeper into the forest, the Army said.

The two victims were rescued unhurt and handed over to the police for medical checks, debriefing and further action.

The remains of the suspected kidnapper were also handed over to the police for “appropriate action,” according to the statement.

The Army said it remained committed to protecting lives and property and would continue working with other security agencies and local stakeholders.

“Troops will continue to sustain aggressive and intelligence-led operations to deny criminal elements freedom of action and enhance the safety and security of communities across the country,” the statement said.
