Turaki-Led PDP Faction Endorses Adeleke for Osun Governorship Election

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by former Minister of Special Duties Kabiru Turaki has endorsed Osun State Gov. Ademola Adeleke for Saturday’s governorship election.

The faction, which is backing Adeleke despite his move from the PDP to the Accord Party, announced its decision in a statement Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong.

The group urged its members and supporters in Osun to vote for Adeleke, describing the governor as the candidate best positioned to continue his administration’s work in the state.

The endorsement is another major political development ahead of the election, which has seen rival factions and smaller parties align themselves with the leading candidates.

The Turaki faction had earlier backed the Allied Peoples Movement candidate, Adebayo Adewale, in June.

The group has now switched its support to Adeleke as the election approaches.

The latest endorsement comes amid a series of last-minute political realignments in Osun.

Adewale has since withdrawn from the contest and declared support for Adeleke.

The Turaki faction’s decision also adds to Adeleke’s support base as he seeks a second term under the Accord Party.

His major challengers include the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam.

The election will be held across Osun’s 30 local government areas, with more than 1.9 million voters eligible to participate.

With the campaign period over, political parties have turned their attention to mobilising supporters and protecting their votes on election day.

The election is expected to be closely contested, with security agencies deploying thousands of personnel across the state for the poll.
