The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged people in Nigeria’s South-East region to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, warning that major federal projects in the region could suffer if they fail to do so.
Umahi spoke during an inspection of ongoing road and bridge projects in Ebonyi State, where he praised the Tinubu administration for what he described as heavy investment in South-East infrastructure.
The minister pointed to projects such as the Calabar-Ebonyi–Benue-Nasarawa-Abuja Superhighway, which he said covers about 123 kilometres in Ebonyi State and is valued at about ₦454 billion.
He added that the Federal Government had already released 50 percent funding for the project.
“Only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can build these roads and bridges,” Umahi said.
“Past politicians used this bridge as campaign promises, but this President came and started the work without making noise about it.”
He also told communities benefiting from federal projects to repay the government with political support.
“Last time, Afikpo people did not vote for APC.
"If they want this bridge completed, I will require 100 percent of the votes.
"I am not asking for 99 percent,” he said.
Umahi argued that the South-East is receiving more federal attention under Tinubu than in previous administrations.
He said the region had “regained relevance” in national politics through infrastructure projects and appointments.
The former Ebonyi governor also claimed that the Tinubu administration has revived abandoned projects across the region, including the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and access roads to the Second Niger Bridge.
“We must support the President to complete these projects and secure greater opportunities for the South-East,” Umahi said.
