We’ve Started Refunding Customers Who Paid for Meters - Ikeja Electric

Ikeja Electric Plc has begun refunding customers who previously paid for electricity meters under the Meter Asset Provider programme.

The company announced the development during its September virtual stakeholder engagement, where it also provided updates on customer service, metering and safety.

Under the refund arrangement, eligible customers will receive the money they paid for their meters through credits applied to their electricity vending transactions over the approved refund period.

Ikeja Electric said customers can track their refunds online using their meter or account numbers.

“Customers can monitor their refund status online using their meter number or account number,” the company said.

It added that the refund dashboard shows the meter cost, refund count, monthly refund amount, total refund received and last refund date.

It also provides the applicable refund token, which is sent to the customer’s registered phone number or email address.

The refunds follow a Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission order requiring electricity distribution companies to clear outstanding meter reimbursements.

NERC said DisCos had an outstanding N20.33 billion in meter refunds as of 31st December, 2025.

The regulator directed DisCos to repay the outstanding amount over 12 months beginning 1st March, 2026, with reimbursements made through energy credits.

Customers who have concerns about their refunds have been advised to use Ikeja Electric’s official complaint channels or visit their nearest undertaking office.

The company also warned customers against using unauthorised electricians to work on power lines, poles or electrical installations following recent fatal incidents.
