Zamfara Governor to Join Tinubu on UK State Visit to Boost Ties

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal will join Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a state visit to the United Kingdom, officials said.

The visit, described as “historic,” will take place from March 18 to 19th March 2026.

Tinubu, along with the First Lady and members of his team, is expected to leave Abuja on Tuesday.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the delegation will be hosted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle.

“Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal will join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's entourage for a historic visit to the United Kingdom on 18th and 19th March, 2026,” the statement said.

It added that the visit aims to “strengthen bilateral relations and explore collaboration opportunities in immigration, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.”

During the trip, the Nigerian delegation will attend a State Banquet hosted by the Royal Family and view “a special exhibition of Royal Collection items related to Nigeria.”

Tinubu is also expected to meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for talks that will focus on key areas of cooperation.

The statement said the meeting will lead to “expanded bilateral talks ending with the signing of MoUs on trade, investment, defence, and cultural cooperation.”

The president will also serve as guest of honour at the Nigerian Modernism exhibition and meet business leaders and members of the Nigerian diaspora.

The visit is expected to create opportunities for Nigerian states, including Zamfara.

“The state visit will provide Governor Lawal with networking opportunities, opening significant prospects for investment and economic benefits for Zamfara State,” the statement added.
