Arsenal Sweep Aside Man City to Win Community Shield

Arsenal began the 2026-27 season with a statement victory, beating Manchester City 3-0 to win the Community Shield at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday.

The Premier League champions needed just 23 seconds to take the lead, with Riccardo Calafiori finishing after a clever pass from Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The early goal immediately put Manchester City under pressure and gave Arsenal control of the game.

Arsenal continued to look the more dangerous side and doubled their advantage in the 28th minute.

Kai Havertz rose to head home from Christos Tzolis' delivery, leaving City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with little chance.

Manchester City struggled to create a sustained response before halftime, with Arsenal's pressing and defensive organisation making it difficult for Enzo Maresca's side to build attacks.

Arsenal then struck again shortly after the restart.

Martin Ødegaard calmly finished to make it 3-0, following a clever attacking move that left City exposed.

Mikel Arteta's side remained in control for much of the second half, while City made changes in an attempt to change the momentum.

The substitutions, however, failed to produce a comeback.

The victory gives Arsenal early silverware and a major boost ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

It also marks an impressive start to life as champions after Arsenal ended a long wait for the league title last season.

For City, the defeat gives Maresca plenty to consider as he begins his competitive tenure following Pep Guardiola's departure.

Arsenal will now turn their attention to their Premier League title defence, while City will look to respond when the league season begins.
