Cameroon Defeat Super Falcons 1–0 in WAFCON 2026 Friendly

Cameroon women's national football team defeated Nigeria’s Nigeria women's national football team 1–0 in an international friendly match played in Yaoundé on Saturday.

The game was part of both teams’ preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Cameroon scored the only goal of the match in additional time of the second half after a tight and physical contest between the two rivals.

The Super Falcons created chances but struggled to break down the Cameroonian defence.

Nigeria coach Justin Madugu had said before the match that the friendly was mainly to assess his players and test new combinations in the squad.

“What the players will do in the game will tell us their capacity, how they fit into the team and what qualities they bring,” he said ahead of kickoff.

Madugu explained that while Nigeria always plays to win, the bigger goal was to evaluate players, especially new call-ups, as the team builds toward WAFCON.

“Winning is not the ultimate for us, because the major objective is to really assess the players,” he said.

Despite the loss, the match gave the coaching crew a chance to observe the team’s structure, fitness and teamwork against strong opposition.

The two sides are expected to meet again in a second friendly as preparations continue for the continental tournament, where Nigeria will aim to reclaim the African title.
