Nigeria's Super Eagles have dropped to fourth in Africa in the latest FIFA Men's World Rankings despite keeping their 26th place in the world.
The rankings, released on Monday after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saw Egypt overtake Nigeria following the Pharaohs' impressive run to the Round of 16 in the tournament.
Egypt lost 3-2 to eventual finalists Argentina but earned enough ranking points to move above the Super Eagles.
Nigeria remain on 1,585.2 ranking points and are still ahead of Turkey, Australia, Algeria, Canada and Côte d'Ivoire in the global standings.
However, Morocco, Senegal and Egypt are now the top three African teams, pushing the Super Eagles down to fourth on the continent.
The latest rankings reflect the impact of the World Cup, where several African nations gained valuable points through strong performances.
Nigeria did not feature at the tournament after failing to qualify, limiting their chances of improving their position.
Despite the continental drop, the Super Eagles remain among Africa's highest-ranked teams and are expected to focus on upcoming international fixtures as they begin preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
FIFA said the updated rankings came after "the dramatic conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup," with the tournament producing "massive shifts across the global stage."
Spain replaced Argentina as the world's top-ranked men's team following their World Cup triumph, while the Super Eagles retained their place among the world's top 30 national teams.
