Queiroz Questions VAR After Goalless Draw with England

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz has questioned the use of VAR following his side’s goalless draw against England in their Group L clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The match ended 0-0, with England dominating possession but unable to break down a disciplined Ghana side that executed a clear defensive game plan.

Despite the result, controversy surrounded a key moment in the second half when Ghana were denied a penalty after a challenge on Prince Adu, a decision that VAR did not review.

Speaking after the match, Queiroz expressed frustration, using sarcasm to question the system.

“I’m not sure if VAR is still working. It was a clear penalty,” he said.

He went further in his criticism, suggesting the technology was absent at crucial moments.

“The VAR went for coffee,” he added, while later clarifying his comments were made jokingly to avoid sanctions.

Queiroz, however, praised his team’s performance, stating that their objective was to frustrate England, a plan he believes was successfully executed.

The result leaves both sides on four points in Group L, with qualification to the knockout stage still within reach heading into their final group fixtures.
