Real Madrid Appoints Jose Mourinho as Head Coach on Three-Year Deal

Real Madrid officially announced on Thursday that Jose Mourinho has been appointed as the club's head coach.

The Portuguese veteran returns to the Spanish capital on a three-year contract after a 13-year absence.

The 63-year-old takes over from Alvaro Arbeloa following a disappointing season where Madrid finished without a major trophy.

The club confirmed the appointment in an official statement, noting that they have agreed to appoint Jose Mourinho as the first team's head coach for the next three seasons, until 30th June 2029.

Mourinho is set to join the squad on 13th July, which marks the start of the team’s preseason.

His arrival comes after a stint at Benfica, where the club paid 15 million euros to secure his release.

During his previous tenure at the Santiago Bernabéu from 2010 to 2013, Mourinho led the team to a La Liga title, a Copa del Rey, and a Spanish Super Cup.

Reflecting on his impact, Madrid president Florentino Perez suggested that the coach was instrumental in the club’s recent era of success.

"Real Madrid have agreed to appoint Jose Mourinho as the first team's head coach for the next three seasons, until June 30, 2029," the club stated.

"Jose Mourinho will join Real Madrid on July 13, the day preseason begins."

Mourinho faces the immediate task of stabilising the dressing room following a troubled campaign marked by internal conflicts.

He is expected to impose discipline on a squad that struggled to balance star talents like Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham.
